Make love when you can. It's good for you. -- Kurt Vonnegut

Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith, I consider a capacity for it terrifying and absolutely vile. -- Kurt Vonnegut

The first thing you need to know about me is that at any given time, I am typing with at least one cat sitting on my lap, desk, or keyboard. Or if I am really lucky, all three will jump me at once.

I live just outside Chicago, where I worked for a shelter for battered women. I was laid off this December, but hope to translate my expertise into a teaching position or two.

I loved my work, but it did present me with questions. It would be accurate to say I am pursuing a degree in research Psychology because I am looking for answers to those questions. No doubt I have some theories about those questions that I am looking forward to testing with research. I finish my classes the summer of 2008, then start on the terrifying journey to design my research project and make it into a dissertation. Then a book; then...Oprah. Make no small plans!

Other than work, I live a simple life. I just married my boyfriend of six years; we live with three cats and a dog. Reading is my favorite activity, science fiction and mysteries mostly. I also follow scientific progress with Discover and Astronomy magazines, and political follies with Mother Jones and a podcast subscription to AirAmerica Radio.

To summarize, when presented with puzzles, I like to know how and why. I like to know what is going on. I have yet to find a puzzle more fascinating than the human puzzle.

I think a lot about all kinds of stuff.

"Whatever it was that was going on, what got to Hotchkiss so was that in the midst of this mystical soup the two of them shared, this ongoing faith in magic, mystery, and secret powers, they were having an absolutely marvelous time. Their interest and confidence in this system of exchanges with the world was constantly renewed by the absolutely terrific kick the two of them seemed to elicit from this seemingly zany enterprise."
